Lindon started as String Town, a line of houses along what is now State Street, and stayed an orchard town until the 1950s. The shift from fruit to subdivisions ran through the 1970s, and the population nearly doubled between 2000 and 2010. What that leaves is two kinds of Lindon: bench homes east of the highway on ground that drains toward the lake, and homes west of I-15 on the old orchard flats that run down to the Utah Lake shore at Lindon Marina.
The west side is where the water table matters. Utah Lake reached record highs in 1983, when diking was needed to keep the lake off the freeway, and the lake was full again in 2011 and 2019.
